Carer’s Project

Are you a carer?

Do you provide unpaid support and assistance to someone else. This could be:

  • A partner or spouse
  • A parent or child
  • Other relative – aunt or uncle, godparent
  • Friend or neighbour

We’re trying to make sure we know all our carers, because carers often put the health of the person they are supporting above their own health, so may need our help and support. It is estimated that in Devon alone there are 74,000 unpaid carers, who could be providing up to 50 hours a week support to friends or relatives.

Annie Higman started our Carer’s Project in 2011 and since then we have identified over 100 carers who are patients at our surgery. Once identified carers are able to access information and support to promote their own health and wellbeing.

This includes access to a confidential helpline – Devon Carers: 08456 434 435 and meetings with our Carer Support Worker Christina Dymond, who can provide information on grants for Carer Breaks and help to access other benefits.

Ask for a Carers Pack at Reception for additional information. You can also visit http://www.devoncarers.org.uk/ for further information.
