‘Bertie’ – Volunteers needed

IMG_0437Our ‘Bertie’ Prescription delivery service has been running for many years and now delivers medication on four days a week to patients all over our Practice area.  It is highly valued by both patients and carers.  Bertie is funded by the Friends of Wyndham House.  Jan Topham has been doing a fantastic job coordinating the service since its inception.  However Jan is currently in need of volunteers to help with the deliveries.  This entails a morning working with the Dispensary team to put the delivery together and then driving Bertie around the local villages.  If you think you would be able to help there is no doubt that the team will welcome you with open arms.  Only requirements are a driving licence and enthusiasm.  Please let us know at the surgery if you could help and we will put you in touch with Jan.

Synchronising Repeat Medication

images-2Ordering all your repeat medication at the same time really makes a difference to the efficiency of our Dispensary.  We would like to encourage patients not to wait until each medication runs out in turn but order enough in one go to ensure you do not have to reorder again within the month.  Having a few extra tablets at home will not matter.  If you need extra of a particular medication to synchronise your repeat please just let us know.  The process of receiving, ordering and dispensing your Repeat medication properly and safely does take 48 hours.  Whilst at all times the Dispensary Team are working extremely hard to ensure what you need is ready for you on time this will only work for everyone if all patients remember and respect the 48 hour time frame.  Thanks very much for your understanding.

Advanced Care Planning Project

images-1Many people have thought about what they would or would not like to happen if they become unwell.  However, this is often not discussed and doctors are often unaware of patients’ wishes.  We hope this project will help patients to let doctors know how they wish to be treated.  Here is a link to a document with lots of very useful information about Advanced Care Planning.  If you would like to discuss this further please make an appointment with any of the GPs.

If you wish to opt out….you need to do it now

NHS England has instructed Health & Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) to extract coded GP data from the surgery computer medical system on a monthly basis from March 2014. Under the Health & Social Care Act 2012 GP practices have no choice but to allow the HSCIC to extract this information. Once the data is extracted, the GP practice is no longer the data controller for that information and cannot protect in any way how that information is used, shared or who has access to it.  Although GP practices cannot object to this information leaving the practice, individual patients and their families can instruct their practice to prohibit the transfer of their data ie you have the right to opt-out.

The data collected will be used to help Clinical Commissioning Groups understand the needs of patients and how to improve healthcare services.  However it is likely to be also made available to bodies outside of the NHS such as Universities and commercial organisations.

To opt out simply ask us for a form or download it.  More information available at www.care-data.info.  Opting out will have no effect on your medical care.

Once uploaded, you will not be able to get this data deleted by the HSCIC.  So if you want to opt out, you need to act now.
