Steriliser off to hotter places

Over the past 3 years we have been using our steriliser less and less as we have changed to disposable surgical instruments.  Retired surgeon Mr Jameson Evans is pictured here taking it where it can be put to good use in Zanzibar.  He is Trustee of Impact, a charity which does excellent work for disabled children in Third World Countries.

WoW – Up and running…

Women of Wyndham successfully launched their fundraising project last weekend by taking part in the Race for Life.  Congratulations to all on a successful and enjoyable run.  They aim to raise £1000 towards Breast Cancer Research and are well on the way to achieving it.

Internet security

The server which runs our website was hacked by cyberspace vandals a few weeks ago.  For a few hours they were able to change one file which then opened when site first viewed.  This was effectively internet graffiti and should not happen again.  We can confidently reassure you that nothing else was compromised.  Your records/prescription details are protected by extremely advanced NHS security systems. Our website simply acts as a link to the SystmOne site which holds your records.  This is why the issuing of passwords for the new system was so important.  If you have any further questions regarding this please get in touch.

Communication – Texts and e mails

We are keen to use text messaging to remind patients about upcoming appointments. We need to have your consent and mobile number to do this.  If you are using the Repeat Prescription service you can update your details (mobile and e mail) via this secure link into our computer system and we would encourage you to do so.  You can also best communicate with us electronically by using the box highlighted on the Repeat Prescription request page.

Phone lines increasing 29th + 30th April

We are having some new phone lines put in to help make it easier to contact us.  This work will be done at the end of April.  We hope it will not disrupt phone lines into the surgery on these days.  Once the new system is set up callers at busy times who are not answered straight away will be given their position in the queue.  More lines in and out of Wyndham House will mean finding us engaged will hopefully be a rare event.

Repeat Prescribing

The new repeat prescribing system has now been running very successfully for 6 months.  This is a more secure, quicker and safer system for both patients and dispensary staff.  We have now removed the old system from the website.  If you have any difficulties logging on with your password please see our helpful hints attachment.  Any other problems please ring.

Patient Feedback – excellent ++

In the last 2 months we have had the results of 2 Patient Feedback Surveys.  The first showed that 94% of our patients rate the service they receive from Wyndham House as good, very good or excellent.  This all round satisfaction was mirrored in the Patient Participation Group (PPG) coordinated survey that showed increased scores in all areas from when we last ran it in 2012.  However we do not plan to rest up.  Please see the action plan we have developed to continue to push for improvements in 2013/14 (links in the PPG section of website).

94% approval rating

94% of patients rated the service and care received at Wyndham House as Good, Very Good or Excellent in the Patient Feedback Survey that we ran in November. Our scores were well above the national average in all areas that were assessed. Click here for the full report. We were all extremely pleased with the results however we will continue to strive to innovate and improve and always welcome any feedback that will help us attain this.

Blood Results

To ensure all your results are back please leave a week after a test has been taken before ringing for the result.  Please could we ask patients to ring in the afternoons for results – this gives doctors a chance to look at them at the end of their morning surgeries and is also the least hectic time for Reception staff.  Thanks very much.

Peninsula Medical School

This year we will be hosting students from Years 2, 3 & 5 of the Peninsula Medical School.  We have been involved in teaching the students since the school was formed in 2004.  All three GPs are involved in teaching and examining the students during the year at the surgery and also at the medical school.  Thanks very much to all our patients for the warm welcome and encouragement they give to the students.  We consistently get fantastic feedback from them about their time spent at Wyndham House.
