This year we will be hosting students from Years 2, 3 & 5 of the Peninsula Medical School. We have been involved in teaching the students since the school was formed in 2004. All three GPs are involved in teaching and examining the students during the year at the surgery and also at the medical school. Thanks very much to all our patients for the warm welcome and encouragement they give to the students. We consistently get fantastic feedback from them about their time spent at Wyndham House.

Trish Brown, our Senior Practice Nurse, has been teaching nurses training to become General Practice Nurses for many years at Plymouth University. Recently the GP Unit where she lectures won the Education Provider of the Year at The General Practice Awards in London. Hopefully next year we will be harnessing Trish’s expertise further when we commence a pilot nurse training programme linked to the University and the South West Deanery at Wyndham House.
The Friends of Wyndham House are generously funding a series of Balance Classes which will run in the Community Hall. The courses aim to improve balance, coordination, leg strength and so reduce risks of falling. The course is free and patients who attend all six sessions will gain the most benefit. The first course has just finished and was extremely successful. For further details please contact the surgery.
New Repeat Prescription Service
The new Repeat Prescription Service is up and running. It allows you to choose and tick from your own personal Repeat List. Please come into the surgery with some Photo ID (Passport/Driving Licence) before you need your next repeat to collect a Username and Password. If you have collected this already click on above link to access the new service. The same Username and Password will also enable you to book Appointments On-line. NB it is important that you always Log Out of the system (as you do with your bank account). If you have any difficulties using the new system follow this link for a step by step guide.
Wyndham House Surgery are proud to have sponsored one of the prizes to be awarded to pupils at Silverton School at the end of their final year. The prize will be given to a pupil judged to have made the most progress during their time at Primary School. Anthony O’Brien and Emma Ziegler are pictured presenting the cup to Silverton Headmaster Mr Heath Nickels.
Sylvia Wakeham and Trish Brown have set up some educational sessions for patients recently identified as being at risk of developing Diabetes. Lots of recent research (some carried out at Wyndham House) has shown that pro-active changes in lifestyle in this group of patients can be very effective. With support from the Friends of Wyndham House we will be inviting patients with Pre-Diabetes to come along to a two hour motivational training session in the next few months. The Friends of Wyndham House Surgery have been running a prescription delivery service since 2006. This is organised by Janet Topham (pictured with “Bertie”). We currently regularly deliver medication to over 300 patients in all the villages within the surgery catchment area. It is a fantastic service highly valued by patients. If you know of someone who would benefit from “Bertie’ deliveries please let us know at the surgery”
The Friends of Wyndham House are supporting the surgery in our Carer’s Project. We are identifying all those within our community who are actively caring for others. So often their hard work is overlooked and the costs to their health go unrecognised. We will be offering Carer’s Healthchecks, putting them in touch with support agencies and also ensuring the option of help with breaks / respite care are possible. The Podiatry Service for Silvertonians was almost relocated to Tiverton last month. However after some negotiations and also support from the Friends of Wyndham House we are very pleased to announce that the service will remain local. A podiatrist from Tiverton will continue to come and work for one day a week at Wyndham House. The day has changed to a Friday and a new examination couch has been purchased in a joint venture between Podiatry and the Friends. This has enabled the Service to meet the requirements of the Care Quality Commission and still run a local clinic. Thanks very much to all involved that has allowed this excellent service to remain in the village.
